Gemini 3.6 Flash by Default, Plus Upload and Workspace Fixes

Gemini 3.6 Flash is now the default across AI features, alongside fixes to uploads, deletes, previews, and the workspace join gate.

One model change and a long list of repairs. The model change is quick to describe, so it goes first. The rest of this post is the fix work: uploads, deletes, previews, and the workspace navigation paths that could leave you stuck.

Gemini 3.6 Flash Is Now the Default

The default Gemini model across Fastio’s AI features moved from 3.5 to 3.6 Flash. You do not need to change a setting to get it.

Getting Unstuck From a Workspace You Have Not Joined

This was the most visible problem in the group, and the one most likely to have wasted your time.

If you opened a link to a workspace you had not joined, you hit a join gate. That gate is supposed to give you a way forward (join) and a way back out. In several cases it gave you neither.

  • Stranded on a workspace you had not joined. The join gate could leave you with no way out. That is fixed.
  • A Joined status that broke the escape routes. The status the gate used to decide what to show was wrong in some cases, which disabled the links back out. Also fixed.
  • The global header on a non-joined workspace. Landing on a non-joined workspace inside an organization context rendered the header incorrectly, which took away the usual navigation. The header now renders properly in that state.
  • External organization navigation. A regression blocked people from reaching external organizations. You can get to them again.

If you have ever been handed a workspace link by a teammate or an agent and found yourself in a dead end, this is the batch that ends it.

Uploads

  • The upload window sometimes never opened. Fixed. In-progress uploads now show live progress, so you can see what is actually moving.
  • Batch finalize marked good files as failed. When a batch finished, finalize could wrongly flag files that were still uploading as failures. Those files are no longer written off early.

Deletes and Storage Purge

Bulk operations rarely succeed or fail as a single unit. Some ids go through, some do not, and the interface has to be honest about which is which.

  • Partial success now updates the file list. After a delete that only partly succeeded, the list reflects the files that were actually deleted instead of leaving stale rows behind.
  • Storage purge got the same treatment. Purge now handles partial success the way delete already did.
  • Repeated selections no longer skew counts. Storage delete de-duplicates ids before acting, so selecting the same file more than once cannot inflate the numbers you see.

Previews and Media

  • Text selection works in text-based previews. You can select and copy from code, JSON, plain text, and log previews. Previously the content was there to read but not to take.
  • Crop failures are visible. If cropping an image fails, you get an error and Confirm is blocked, instead of the failure passing silently.
  • Crop is quieter and lighter. A double toast is gone, and the per-frame decode churn during crop drags has been removed.
  • Picture-in-Picture teardown no longer crashes. Viewers watching video in a portal could hit a crash when Picture-in-Picture tore down. Fixed.
  • Media renders retry after running out of temporary disk space. A render that hit a temporary disk space limit used to fail permanently. It now retries.

Billing, Stability, and Sign In

  • Payment retries stay stable. Billing keys the payment element group by client secret, so retrying a payment no longer reuses state from the previous attempt.
  • Fast clicks no longer take down the app. A crash triggered by a quick click has been fixed.
  • OAuth loopback redirects match correctly. Native clients that listen on an ephemeral local port can complete authorization again.

Most of this is the kind of work you only notice by its absence: the upload window opens, the count is right, the copy button is unnecessary because you can just select the text. The join gate fixes are the exception. If that one caught you, you will feel the difference immediately.
